Vinyl: EX+ - a few paper scuffs but nothing that affects play otherwise very clean, no blemishes, I would rate it NM if it weren't almost 50 yrs. old Cover: NM - beautiful open in shrink, a tiny tiny bit of edge wear along opening, red tag on shrink otherwise looks new Inner dust sleeve: NM - thick paper, like new with photo/lyrics Vinyl, LP, Album, Stereo, Santa Maria Pressing ℗©1976, ABC Records, Inc. Printed in U.S.A.Engineered at ABC Studios in Los Angeles and at A&R Studios in New York. The Royal Scam is the fifth album by Steely Dan, originally released by ABC Records in 1976. The album went gold and peaked at #15 on the charts. The Royal Scam features more prominent guitar work than the prior Steely Dan album, Katy Lied, which had been the first without founding guitarist Jeff Baxter. Guitarists on the recording include Walter Becker, Denny Dias, Larry Carlton, Elliott Randall and Dean Parks.In common with other Steely Dan albums, The Royal Scam is littered with cryptic allusions to people and events both real and fictional. In a BBC interview in 2000, Becker and Fagen revealed that "Kid Charlemagne" is loosely based on Augustus Owsley Stanley, the notorious drug "chef" who was famous for manufacturing hallucinogenic compounds, and that "Caves of Altamira", based on a book by Hans Baumann, is about the loss of innocence, the narrative about a visitor to the Cave of Altamira who registers his astonishment at the prehistoric drawings. Here I have a Original Press LP of Steely Dan's "Royal Scam" that's in NM condition. Amazing host of contributors including: Michael McDonald, Chuck Rainey, Larry Carlton, Victor Feldman, John Klemmer and more. Quite possibly the nicest opened copy on the market. Record Grading M A still sealed and never played record. NM Near Mint looks like new but played a few times. EX A lightly used with no visible scratches or sleeve scuffs. VG+ A used but not abused record that may have 1 or 2 light paper scratches or scuffing but DNAP. Will be noted if any scratches or scuffs exist. VG Played many times and may have a few scratches and scuffs but are not fingernail detectable. Usually, will have some background noise. G Well-worn but should play through without repeating and may have one or more detectable scratches. Record Cover Grading M A sealed brand-new cover, if issue exists it will be described. NM Cover may have a few very minor flaws otherwise will appear as though brand new. EX Cover will show one or two minor imperfections, very light wear to the corners and edges. VG+ Cover will show a few signs of wear and handling. May include light stains /discoloration, small crease marks, and faint wear (shelf or ring). Possible markings such as a cut corner, hole punch, or saw cut. VG Cover will show several of the same signs of wear and handling present on a VG+ cover. Splits to the seam or spine will not exceed 2" in length. The presence of a single pronounced flaw, such as extremely prominent shelf or ring wear, marking, staining, writing, or discoloration will cause an LP cover to be graded VG, as will the presence of an appreciable number of minor flaws. G Cover will show many minor imperfections, and multiple pronounced flaws such as prominent shelf or ring wear, marking, staining, writing, or discoloration.
