NOTES:The roots of Los Angeles' Grant Lee Buffalo stretch back to 1985 when former film student Grant-Lee Phillips and Jeffrey Clark started Shiva Burlesque. (They'd earlier been in a band called the Torn Boys.) Phillips specialized in "psychedelic acoustic 12-string," feedback included, while Clark's Jim Morrison-influenced vocals were the stuff of high sweeping drama. They added upright bassist James Brenner and drummer/marimba player Joey Peters; by '87, the band's self-titled debut on Nate Starkman & Son (home to numerous other California eccentrics) was in the bins.
Shiva Burlesque screams "art rock" from its colorful gatefold sleeve iconography (a reproduction of a painting by Deborah Lawrence). The music itself is an ambitious mélange of styles and moods. There's atmospheric, Echo and the Bunnymen-style pop with self-conscious poetry subbing for rock lyrics ("The Lonesome Death of Shadow Morton"), buoyant, shimmering folk-rock using Phillips' 12-string as its signature ("Indian Summer")-even the occasional foray into stream-of-consciousness, post-punk freneticism (the trumpet-flecked "Train Mystery"). The inevitable press comparisons to the Doors aside, it's an impressive debut.
Record Grading Scale: Highest Grade is Near-Mint, next highest is Excellent, next step down is Very Goodes, lowest grade is Very Good ( I only sell VG records if they are hard to find or if the jacket is in really nice shape and one desired for framing) - Sealed records are described as such with any defects to the jacket and shrinkwrap.
The group later became known as Sunsonic, and released the full-length LP Melting Down On Motor Angel.

All LPs come boxed carefully in corrugated boxes made specifically for LPs, with a filler pad on top to protect the cover, plus the LPs are housed in clear plastic LP sleeves. LP is removed from cover (except for SEALED LPs) for shipping to prevent seam splitting.
I will notify you by email when your parcel is packed informing you of the shipping date. For foreign shipments that are delayed, I will be glad to supply the customs form number for your parcel as proof that it has been shipped.

I have the right to change the shipping rate for an order of 1-4 LPs only if it weighs significantly more than normal (example: a buyer buys 4 double LPs and the weight is over 4 pounds) in which case the parcel will be weighed and charged according to weight.
