"ALBUM" B&C (Beat & Commercial) Records released October 1790
This is the genuine B&C original record which I acquired upon its release. The record is graded between (EX) Excellent to (VG) Very Good, which is remarkable considering its age of 51 years. Faces A and B of the record have minor hairline scuffs but both sides play perfectly. There is no hole distortion. The album sleeve is graded (G) as it has some ageing around its edges and very minor wearing upon its faces, but no bends or creases. The inner paper sleeve has some minor creases upon its surface and the retailers stamp upon one face (very common in the 1970s). B & C label copies are very rare.
Shelagh McDonald was born in Edinburgh, hailed from Glasgow, Scotland. This first album was produced by Sandy Roberton and contained elaborate musical arrangements by Robert Kirby. Roberton surrounded Shelagh with such luminary musicians the likes of :- Keith Christmas and Andy Roberts (Guitar), Gerry Conway and Robert Powell (Drums), Keith Tippett (Piano), Ian Whiteman (Electric Piano), Mike Evans (Bass), Gordon Huntley (Steel Guitar), and Tristan Fry (Vibes). Shelagh played Guitar and Piano. The album was critically applauded by the folk media, and comparisons were made with Sandy Denny and Judy Collins, but was largely ignored by the buying public. Now as with other original releases of that era, it is highly valued and sought after. Numerous re-releases have been made of this record throughout its 51 year period. Like a good book, it is always special to have the first edition.
Shelagh McDonald was part of an amazing collection of contemporary, folk/rock luminaries:- Pentangle, Trees, Jade, Nick Drake and Fairport. Her talent was on par to all of the aforementioned.
Some observations upon Grading Mint (M) The record is in brand new condition, no surface marks, no sound quality deteration. Records designated sealed or un-played qualify as mint. Excellent (EX) The record shows some signs of being played, but with minimal lessening of sound quality . The cover &/or packaging may show slight wear &/or creasing. Very Good (VG) The record has obviously been played many times, but manifests no sound quality deterioraton. Despite noticeable surface marks &/or light scratching. Visible wear & tear on the cover or additional items, without major defects, is acceptable. Good (G) The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, pehaps with some distortion and mild scratches.The cover and contents may suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc. Fair (F) The record is still just playable, but has not been cared for propery and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
