As for their output to date, they have released two 7 inches last year, both highly praised worldwide and captured many top ten lists for best releases of 2010 (including two 7 inches of the year awards). With this release, the bands self-titled debut full length, its quite simply the best new LP released in 2011. Ten killer, POSHBOY-esque songs instantly bringing to mind the ADOLESCENTS/SOCIAL DISTORTION/AGENT ORANGE/TSOL-era of early 80s LA punk, as well as lots of Briefs overtones. Dark, aggressive and loaded with hooks, these tunes will enter your ears and stick in yer head until your nuts unexpectedly explode, leaving you with your mind blown and your nuts a thing of the past. You are bidding on the *ULTRA RARE* Sonoma Only HALLOWEEN SHOW “Jack-o-Lantern” EDITION LP of  25!!! Word has it that these hot little numbers were hand cut, spray painted, and pasted together right before the show by none other than the band themselves. Pressed on black vinyl with a red center label. Covers are plain black with a white Sharp Objects logo spray painted on the front. A pumpkin face has been carved out of the front cover, revealing the red spray painted inside dust sleeve. Also comes with the original printed 2 sided dust sleeve with lyrics and photos, an 11" x 17" poster from the Record Release Show, and an 8.5" x 11" regular record release poster. This copy is hand #23 of 25. Brand New. Never played. This is a must have for SERIOUS COLLECTORS ONLY. It was altered/made by the band, and therefore being sold "AS IS" If you want a perfect sounding studio recording please do not bid. "The normally offered rating scale for record reviews just doesn´t fit properly for this one and definitely needs to be expanded with some additional points.
After the first two singles, for which I already built a little shrine in my living room, I knew of course that I had to expect something an epic debut album but how was I to know that it really would be that superficial that I even don´t know the proper words to describe how great it is, unbelievable.
Now that I´ve listened to the album countless times since the day I got it I deliver the judgement that this is one of the best records since the dawn of the new millenium and the record of the year anyway.
In my personal best list of the past eleven years this record has meanwhile joined the holy ranks of the Top 3 and that is for a lot of different reasons.
In first place it is because the SHARP OBJECTS managed to take the path that needs to be taken for a groundbreaking record which is explained as following: All old and nowadays legendary records of Punkrock are defined as classics for one simple reason which is because they stood up against the societal climate of their times with words and sound, because they packed the hate towards their personal circumstances into some damn great chords and lyrics full of irony, sarcasm, danger, anger, fun and destruction and moved others to follow who were only waiting for someone to give them a voice, the SHARP OBJECTS are doing just that.
If some old fart may complain now about my blasphemic behaviour to put the SHARP OBJECTS in the same line as the legends of Punkrock because he has the opinion that everything has been said already anyway, that every chord has been played yet, that every lyrical content has been used before and that Punkrock has lost it´s meaning because it has become acceptable, commercial and well adapted for society then I can only answer that the SHARP OBJECTS are the proof of just the opposite and that the old complaing farts may live on with their total misbelief.
So what are the definite things about this record that makes it the timeless classic it is and will be ?
It´s the sum of all that is great and heartfelt about Punkrock music, it´s Daniel and Morgan belting out lyrics which get straight to the point of what I hate about these days we live in but are still able to contain the feeling that you can have a lot of fun dancing on the ruins of the modern times while shouting along to songs like "Plasticland", "Night Patrol" or "Rat Trap" also if teargas grenades are exploding all around you.
It´s Ian beating up his drums to the the tempo of a street fight while Scott is bursting out the glass from the windows of burning city councils with his machine-gun slapping bass.
The guitars being strummed by Daniel and Morgan as well are capable of creating an absolutely own trademark sound that totally stands out on his own and could always be differed from a thousand of other bands. The chords of Mr. Travanti can only be compared to the individuality of someone like Rikk Agnew who gave the ADOLESCENTS a big part of their unique sound while Morgan also would have made Mike Palm of AGENT ORANGE proud.
The SHARP OBJECTS are definitely carrying the banner of above mentioned bands and all great California Punkrock in general to new highs.
As of now they are the only band that was able to beam me back in time when I first put down the needle on the legendary blue album by ADOLESCENTS or on "Horse Bites, Dog Cries" by D.I. and was thrown out of range forever.
You could keep on comparing them to an endless list of legendary POSH BOY bands and they definitely would be on a par with them but in the case of the SHARP OBJECTS you just don´t have to compare them to anyone, this band doesn´t replay anything but instead creates a game of their own.
The adventure Punkrock just turned over a new leaf so forget all the old farts and bomb the world with the SHARP OBJECTS sound!"
