Description

Rare historical 12-inch 78 rpm shellac record: COMMANDER ROBERT E. PEARY - The Discovery of the North Pole / SIR ERNEST SHACKLETON - A Dash for the South Pole - Victor 55096, with date of Aug 11 1908 on the labels. This is an amazing and rare records, with monologues by two ARCTIC EXPLORERS - SHACKLETON was a British polar explorer who led three British expeditions to the Antarctic. He was one of the principal figures of the period known as the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration; and PEARY, who was an American explorer and United States Navy officer who made several expeditions to the Arctic in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He is best known for claiming to have reached the geographic North Pole with his expedition on April 6, 1909.

Condition is EX (glossy and stunning with a few very soft sleeve scuffs, a 1/8-inch mark to one side and small soft scratch to the other side that I can barely feel; one sticker to one of the otherwise-clean labels).

MORE TO COME - I've listed and will be listing many other rare 10" and 12" shellac records over the next month or two, mainly historical events, sports, personalities, politicians, speeches, military, WWI, WWII, presidential & campaign, kings & queens, etc.
A NOTE ON SHIPPING SHELLAC RECORDS: I use the floating method, with the record sandwiched between strong pieces of cardboard with corrugate in opposite directions, then placed inside a larger sturdy box with packing material all around inside to prevent any movement (either peanuts, large-bubble wrap, or crumpled paper). Sometimes if I have old 10" LP jackets I don't need, I will put your record in it before sandwiching; otherwise will be in a paper sleeve. I will also always insure these with the USPS. Due to the extra time, materials, insurance, and overall high level of stress associated with shipping these safely (YOU know!), I am asking $6.00 for Media Mail shipping ($4 is actual shipping cost). I think it is reasonable, and I get the feeling that most collectors who buy these online are happy to pay a little extra for the added assurance.

(Vintage & Antique Records, Single, 78 rpm, Shellac, Non-music, Spoken Word, Speech, Broadcasting, History, Exploration, Discovery, Travel, Arctic, Polar, North Pole, Expedition, 1900's, Memorabilia, Collectible)
