Description
Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks
Notes: Serious bidders only! This copy of the "Never Mind the Bollocks" LP is one of the first 1000 pressed in the UK! As you can see by the photos, this version has the plain pink back and includes only eleven songs (missing "Submission," which was included in all subsequent pressings per the group's decision). 1977 Virgin V2086
Here are some details on the LP courtesy of Discogs.com:
"First 1000 Pressing
It's not the SPOTS-release to be the first issue of this record, it's this one with the plain pink back & 11-track album.
Matrix for the first 1000 batch must be:
V2086 A1/B1
V2086 A2/B2
V2086 A3/B3
No poster and no freebie single added to this release! It was originally planned to be released as promotional material, but due to the french rush-release Richard Branson was forced to use this issue as first release"
As you can see in the third photo, the matrix numbers on this record are V2086 A2/B2. The real deal! This is a must-own for die-hard Sex Pistols fans and the most serious collectors.
UPDATE: After doing some further research I found that although A1/B1 and A3/B3 are regarded by some as the true first 1000, copies with the A2/B2 matrix number were pressed at the same time on a different pressing machine (three machines were used at the time for testing purposes, and given the numeric sequence, A2/B2 was undoubtedly part of the first batch). This pressing appears rare enough that its existence was doubted until a few years ago when some A2/B2 owners came forward online. Allegedly, A2/B2 copies were included with the others in a batch sent to a record store in Stockholm. They were very limited in quantity and meant to be "show-samples," or copies put on display not meant for sale. Consider all of this if you will. A2/B2 could very well be more rare than A1/B1 or A3/B3. The scarce number of copies out there attests to that. It's anybody's guess how many of them made it out of the window displays. More info about this can be found by Googling the matrix number in quotations.
Given the value of this record I will ship it with Delivery Confirmation and insurance free of charge!
Condition (Vinyl/Jacket): EX/VG++
Condition Notes: Vinyl has amazing sheen and looks almost unplayed. Only imperfection is one 0.75" hairline mark on side B that does not affect play. As you can see from the photo, label is very clean too. Jacket in great shape apart from very light corner and side wear. Faint ringwear on the front and back.
I currently work at a record store and grading vinyl is part of my daily routine. All of my records are graded carefully and conservatively based on standard Goldmine grading criteria. Before shipping, I personally clean every record on a professional VPI record cleaning machine.
PayPal payment must be received within 7 days of the auction's end or I will offer the item to a Second Chance Buyer or re-list it.
