7 Mood Music Library Records (Complete Quarterly Set)

These are 9" records with a 2" center hole, made for the Seeburg 1000 Background Music System.  They are played at 16⅔ rpm.  Each record side contains approximately 39 minutes of instrumental Easy Listening music.  These records were purchased by me from a local jukebox company in the 1980's.  They have are graded EX CONDITION.  .RECORDS SHOW JUST SLIGHT WEAR AND WILL PLAY GREAT

This is the way they were shipped I think.

All records come  in the original Seeburg carton with cardboard insert with paper insert between each record as originally shipped (see photo's). I have only included photo's of  one side of  the records.  All records are EX OR BETTER and there are 7 in total.

The most common of the box sets was the "Basic Music Library" which was widely used. The second was the "Mood Music Library", and then the rarest is the "Industrial Library".

The Basic library consisted of medium tempo music, culled from top 40 hits, show tunes and standards. The arrangements, created just for Seeburg, were nearly all instrumental and featured horns, strings and keyboards.
The Mood library consisted of medium-slow tempo songs, in lush arrangements with mostly stringed instruments. The music derived from standards, show tunes and some pop music. The first song on each side of each record was often a current pop hit.

The Industrial library consisted of medium-fast tempo music of a lively nature, to induce workers to be more productive. This was perhaps the most varied and adventurous of the libraries; it contained polkas, mariachi music, twangy guitar, Hawaiian songs, and even the occasional synthesizer.

A Seeburg Background Music record is a vinyl record of a non-standard 9 inch (23 cm)-diameter size with a 2 inch (5 cm) center hole. The recording is monaural, with a playing speed of 16⅔ rpm and a density of 420 grooves per inch.  A 0.5 mil diamond stylus is used for reproduction. Each side contains approximately 40 minutes of music (typically 20 songs). Records in each series were numbered 1-28 or 101-128; however, these numbers meant nothing other than where a record belonged in the stack.

Initially, the records were distributed four times a year, in sets of SEVEN records. The operator was supposed to replace records in the system with new records of the same number (e.g.ind-125). Each box was labeled with the library type, date to place in service, and instructions for the operator (including that each record was to be returned to Seeburg after use). Upon return, the records were destroyed. A Basic library box states that the records are the property of "Seeburg Music Library, Inc., 1510 N. Dayton St, Chicago 22, Ill".

Grading is based on the following criteria

Mint = store stock new

NEAR Mint = near new with only one or two small insignificant defects

Excellent = extremely nice. Would be Near Mint, except for a couple of light hairlines or scuffs, which do not affect play

VG++ = extremely nice. Would be EXCELLENT, except for a few  light hairline scratches or scuffs, which do not affect play

VG+ = a nice, but used record that may have a series of light scuffs or scratches. It probably plays with a few pops, but has no serious problems.

VG = a well-used record that still sounds OK when played, but may have moderate surface noise, pops, etc.

VG- = a very well-worn record that plays through without skipping, but will do until a better copy comes along.
