PLEASE READ EVERYTHING, ESPECIALLY THE BOTTOM OF THIS LISTING!
YES, THIS IS AN ORIGINAL SEALED 1967 3rd STATE STEREO VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO.
This record came from an impressive collection of rarities, 99% in near mint or sealed condition.
Again, this is an Original 1967 gatefold Acy Lehman designed, 3rd state STEREO cover with Andy Warhol's iconic yellow banana sticker and "Peel Slowly and See" text in the upper right hand corner on the front. The back cover features the airbrushed photograph WITHOUT actor Eric Emerson's torso hanging above the stage and band. Emerson’s image was removed after Emerson, fighting drug charges and in need of money, attempted to sue Verve Records for using his photograph on the album's cover. Copies with Emerson's torso are known as 1st State.
Verve didn’t cave to Emerson’s demands and attempted to withdraw as many copies of the album as it could. Those albums were then affixed with a large black banner sticker over the photo of Emerson. That is the 2nd state cover.
This 3rd State of the original cover has Emerson airbrushed OFF the back before the album was reissued in June 1967. This delay crushed sales, and it’s believed a paltry 30,000 copies were sold between 1967 and 1972.
It begs to ask: Just how many of these remain sealed? Few, if any, and most are cozied away somewhere special.
And when did YOU last see an ORIGINAL SEALED STEREO VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO for sale? A copy went on eBay in late-2021, but before that it was January 2016. Will the next one be in 2027, 2028, Never? Think about it.... or maybe wait a long time to hope to bid again.
Some additional details: Spine reads V6-5008 VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO PRODUCED BY ANDY WARHOL VERVE, from top to bottom. No way to know if this is an East Coast or West Coast version (open if you want, but... I wouldn't!), however we do know the cover is virtually pristine. There is a hint of cornerwear on the lower right corner (virtually nothing), and faint age/storage discoloration, but is otherwise perfect.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This will be the only auction listing for this record. One-time auction.
SECOND NOTE: This is a VERY RARE RECORD. For that reason this record will be shipped via overnight express (USPS, FedEx at my discretion based on value) with signature required and with insurance. NO EXCEPTIONS. That said: PLEASE DO NOT pay for this record until I have sent you a proper invoice with the proper shipping total. I cannot put this total until I see the final sale value. AGAIN: PLEASE DO NOT PAY UNTIL I SEND AN INVOICE WITH PROPER SHIPPING. Failure to wait increases hassles, delays and possible cancelation of the sale.
FINAL NOTE: Also from the same collection and on auction just one time: A RARE VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO "ICE PICK" COVER, still in shrinkwrap. West Coast pressing with NM- vinyl. CHECK IT OUT ALSO.

GRADING
Here is the standard PlanetarySounds grades records by (with help from Goldmine).
Remember, even with such a guide, grading is still subjective. Most albums, unless noted, are visually graded under bright lights. We strive to provide as much information as possible about each album. Please ask questions if unsure about anything BEFORE you bid.
Still Sealed (SS) As good as it gets. Unopened and most likely perfect all around.
Mint (M) Absolutely perfect in every way. Maybe played once. Handled with utmost care.
Near Mint (NM or M-) A nearly perfect record. The record shows no obvious signs of wear. Covers show no more than the most minor defects. The same holds true for inserts, such as posters, lyric sleeves, etc.
Near Mint Minus or Very Good Plus Plus (NM- or VG++) Just a hair more wear than NM, but still very close to Near Mint overall. Vinyl may have nominal sleeve or paper scuffs, cover may have hint of wear. VG++ will be just a fraction below NM- due to one additional tiny defect.
Very Good Plus (VG+) Album and cover show some light signs that it was played and otherwise handled with care of it. Record surfaces may have slight surface scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect play. If not for a couple things wrong with it, this would be Near Mint.
Very Good (VG) Increased scuffs or light scratches, surface noise evident upon playing. Covers and labels may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers, or minor seam splits.
Very Good Minus (VG-) Certain background noise, possible click or pop, flawed item. Covers heavily damaged, major splits, tears, writing, etc.
