"Sheffield Lab" direct-to-disc vinyl recordings of the mid-1970's were 'Sheffield's' audiophile response to such analogue, audiophile masterpieces of the late 50's and early 60's , such as RCA's "Living Stereo" or Mercury's "Living Presence". With one major difference: while the latter two came out in the late 50's and early 60's when the modern recording techniques were in their infancy, "Sheffield Lab" started around 1975 and ended circa 1981, when the extended-range, boosted resolution and improved analogue recording and mastering methods were at their peak. One look (literally speaking) at the grooves of these records and you will immediately realize that these are not your ordinary recordings: the sheen on the surface of the record is intense, the grooves are full and well defined and the Sheffield Lab did not waste their time pressing the records on an inferior vinyl: most of these are, actually, pressed in and imported from Europe. The company went out of the way to provide the best orchestras, the best conductors, the best recording and mastering engineers, the ultimate hi-grade vinyl and to present its product in a visually appealing manner. Looking and holding this record is almost as much fun as listening to it... there is not even a hint of structural flaw or imperfection on it. These recordings - mostly classical, but also some contemporary music - were made under the supervision of the most knowledgeable technicians and engineers on earth. The sound is simply amazing. Quiet passages are so quiet - and the surface noise so conspicuously absent - that you will not even realize that your stylus had hit the surface of the record until the music starts. The highs are high, and the lows are very low. You are going to need a subwoofer and a hypersensitive woofer to express some of these tonal ranges appropriately. The definition and separation is nothing short of amazing.

·       CONDITION:

·       THE RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          THE ALBUM IS STILL FACTORY SEALED AND IS BELIEVED TO BE PERFECTLY MINT. Please note: sealed items are assumed to be mint and are sold as-is, as we have no way of inspecting them. For our policy on still sealed records ►click here (PLEASE READ BEFORE PLACING A BID).

(b)            The record is  apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           All Sheffield Lab releases were pressed on a beautiful, high-quality, virgin-grade vinyl, which is usually used for audiophile, extended-dynamic-range, half-speed mastered and connoisseur pressings.

(d)          The album is guaranteed to include original 8-page booklet

(e)           The record comes in a hi-grade PVC inner sleeve (we can see it from the opening side)

(f)            Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·                               THE COVER

COVER IS NEAR MINT, STILL SEALED AND COVERED IN ITS ORIGINAL ►SHRINK WRAP (LOOSE-FITTING BAGGY)  (A SMALL PIECE OF SHRINK WRAP IS MISSING)
