What else needs to be said? The sound of classic audiophile "Mercury Living Presence STEREO" LPs is consistently incredible and, nothing short of breathtaking. You will forever lose any desire to buy another CD. Under the watchful eye of Mercury’s engineers and producers, the label created one of the recording and engineering marvels of the 1950’s and 60's.

These recordings - mostly classical, but also a handful of pop and easy listening titles - were made under the supervision of the most knowledgeable technicians and engineers on earth. The sound is simply amazing. Quiet passages are so quiet - and the surface noise so conspicuously absent - that you will not even realize that your stylus had hit the surface of the record until the music starts. The highs are high, and the lows are very low. You are going to need a subwoofer and a hypersensitive woofer to express some of these tonal ranges appropriately. This is the music for the ears, heart, mind and guts alike.

For those unfamiliar with early 60’s 35-mm film recordings, we reproduce here a section of the technical notes found on one of such releases:

The original master for this album was recorded on 35 millimeter magnetic film, rather than on 1/4 or 1/2-inch tape. 35-mm magnetic film recording offers many advantages over more conventional tape recordings; these advantages become most important and exciting in recording of very large orchestras.

(1)            Film has no flutter because of the closed loop sprocketed guide path which holds it firmly against the recording head.

(2)            35-mm film is more than four times as wide as the 1/4-inch tape, thus the film is able to carry the equivalent of three 1/4-inch tape tracks with more than enough space between each track to guarantee absolute separation of channels.

(3)            The thickness of the film - 5 mils (three times thicker than tape) greatly reduces the possibility of contamination by print-through.

(4)            Excellent Frequency response is assured by the fast speed at which the film, travels: 18 inches per second, or 90 feet per minute - and the low impedance head system.

(5)            The wider track allows for a very wide, previously unheard of range of dynamics without distortion.

(6)            The Great tensile strength of film and the sprocket drive effectively eliminates any pitch glitches due to 'tape stretch'.

(7)            Signal-to-noise ratio is far superior."

·                               CONDITION:

·                               RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)            THE ALBUM IS STILL FACTORY SEALED AND IS BELIEVED TO BE PERFECTLY MINT. Please note: sealed items are assumed to be mint and are sold as-is, as we have no way of inspecting them. For our policy on still sealed records ►click here (PLEASE READ BEFORE PLACING A BID)

(b)            The record is believed to come in its original stock inner sleeve.

(c)             The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)            Stereo pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more preferable to its mono counterpart. The mix is more graphic, the sound resolution more precise, and the channel separation (which does not exist on mono version) adds a whole new dimension to the music. Also, the stereo mixes are (by definition) somewhat different than on the mono version. We estimate that mono copies of this album outnumber stereo copies by a ratio of at least 5:1.

(e)             Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
