"... a masterpiece. It sounds so fresh that it comes as a surprise to find that it was recorded in 1981. Joe Dioro's diversity, intellect and virtuosity are showcased in an album spanning fusion, standards and the avant garde. He has long been regarded as one of the gurus of jazz guitar by fellow players and is one of the jazz guitar greats of any era. The opening track, 'Space Shuttle Shuffle' is an ecstatic fusion-oriented performance built on a funky bass line; Joe effortlessly weaves a fluent and angular solo that reveals a great jazz thinker and improviser, as well as a guitar virtuoso. This is followed by a serene performance of the tune 'Ave Maria', with Jeff Berlin's fretless bass stating the tune, to Joe's accompaniment. The remaining tracks - ranging from standards to free improvisation - are all outstanding. The liner notes state that 90 percent of the material came off the tops of their heads, which is testament to the class of these three musicians. Although contrasting musical ground is covered in this album, the varied concepts compliment each other. This album must surely have influenced the jazz musicians who have been lucky enough to hear it."
