Sought after...rare...ORIGINAL 1971 multi fold gimmix silver foil cover and hexagon vinyl set ...a sci-fi space thriller from the early 70's much like the "Ohr" Krautrock era.

Like Forbidden Planet, The  ANDROMEDA  STRAIN is one of the few Hollywood productions to feature an original electronic-progressive music score. The soundtrack was composed by composer-musician Gil Mellé, who is probably best known for his theme music for the 1970s Rod Serling TV series "Night Gallery."

It is a unique blend of electronically generated sound, manipulated taped sounds (musique concrete) and some traditional instrumentation (keys, double bass, percussion), punctuated by bursts of electronic white noise and pink noise. The Percussotron III, which the composer designed especially for Andromeda, is heard throughout the various tracks. Musique concrete also plays an important role here. Many field trips were made by the artist in order to record natural sounds of 20th century life (Jet Propulsion Labs in Southern California, buzz saws, wind, bowling alleys and railways). Traditional instruments were used after being electronically altered (like ten times) electronically processed with keys & sound effects. On the general level with some of the avant-garde pioneering (OHR label, etc) German Krautrock "space" bands...

                   CONDITION:  STILL FACTORY SEALED ~ the silver foil custom designed hexagon cover has NO scuffs, abrasions, or scratches! Something of a phenomenon when virtually impossible to find this immaculate. Has a PROMOTIONAL stamp at top right and promotional sticker on back cover. Overall the 48 years ago promo first press is in museum quality having never been opened in near a half a century. Future investment item will only increase in value... Any scuffs or scratches in photos are only on outer cellophane from being around about 50 years. Checked close the actual item is beautiful with no scuffs, scrapes or scratches to the delicate silver-foil cover ...
Wouldn't be going off the deep end to say it's impossible to find a better copy of this rarity! ... the hexagon shaped disc has never been played.
