~ COMPLETE BOX SET LOADED WITH INSERTS ~
The track "Amsterdam" was recorded during John Lennon & Ono's first bed-in in Amsterdam, The Netherlands in 1969.
The heartbeats heard in the track "John & Yoko" are, indeed, John & Ono's heartbeats, recorded on 22 April 1969 in Studio Two, EMI Studios, London. The recordings were later remixed into stereo and re-made.
Wedding Album....First appearance in trade magazines: November 15,1969 ....Label as Stereo- SMAX-3361 - Apple label with “Mfd. by Apple”on the sliced side. Factories: Scranton, Los Angeles, Jacksonville According to Cash Box, the Wedding Album was going to be a Zapple LP, but it wound up appearing on the main line. This may explain why many inner fold slicks read SNAX-(budget line) instead of SMAX-(main line). Outer Box:The outer box shows a picture of John & Yoko leaving the court house in Gibraltar after getting married. The bottom edge of the box reads APPLE RECORDS.
The original Wedding Album is inside a fragile white box and included are the following inserts:
Vinyl album in thick gatefold cover.
1-1/2" x 6" photo strip
3-1/2" x 5-1/2" postcard
24" x 36" poster of wedding photos
12" x 36" poster of John and Yoko lithographs
12" square mylar bag with "Bagism" printed on it
11-1/2" square photo of a piece of wedding cake inserted in the mylar bag
17 page black cover booklet of wedding photos and clippings ("The Press")
Copy of the wedding certificate, glued to the inside box lid
The first track, "John & Yoko" consists of John and Yoko calling out each others' name over trippy looping sound effects. The sound intensifies and speeds up in places, as do their voices, as if to suggest the two are far from each other and calling out to one another. Towards the end of the track, Yoko appears to have found John, as her voices becomes relieved and satisfied. What sounds like kissing noises can be heard at this point as well. She seems to lose him again as the song ends, and they call out to each other a few more times. It's highly interesting. While some may have a preference for Lennon's catchier works, others have found this music to accomplish the same thing. The emotions of the song are crystal clear, even though they aren't expressly stated to us. It's a catalog of sounds, artfully constructed to produce highly emotional music. The second track "Amsterdam" consists of Yoko singing about peace in an opera style voice. She does a very bad job of it, and probably intentionally so. Her voice is shrill, off-pitch, and non-harmonic. This track is less emotionally charged than the first, yet still interesting, simply because it's unconventionally done. John's voice concludes the song, speaking over ambient sounds; he encourages people to get involved in protesting for peace, and doing so in a peaceful way. His speech is more powerful than Yoko's singing, which dominates the next song. She sings over an acoustic guitar in a child-like voice. It's actually somewhat catchy in parts, like a reward for listening to the first two tracks. The flute passages are pleasant as well. The fourth track is very similar to the first, except for the inclusion of electric guitar flourishes. The final track, "Don't Worry, Kyoko..." is interesting as well. Yoko sings over acoustic guitar strumming, as well as some other strings possibly being in there. It's a more subdued song than its predecessors, but the focal points, her voice and the guitar, fail to stand out, leaving a mess of acoustic sounds and her hooting vocals. Anyone with any interest in The Beatles, John Lennon and avant garde psych should give this a listen, it's a powerful, if a rather difficult one. Just don't expect Abbey Road. The record comes in an elaborate box set including sets of photos, 2 sided large poster, photo booth pictures strip, 3 pages insert drawings by Lennon, the marriage certificate, a postcard, a large insert picture of a slice of wedding cake, and a thick booklet of photos re-press clippings about the couple.
