Description
This is an early 1st UK 1969 pressing of the SEA SHANTIES LP by HIGH TIDE.
It was issued on the LIBERTY label and the number is LBS 83264.
Sea Shanties was the first album by High Tide, and featured the following line-up:
- Roger Hadden / drums
- Tony Hill / guitar, vocals
- Simon House / violin, programming, piano
- Peter Pavli / bass
Most of the tracks are loud, heavy progressive music, with very few quieter moments.
There are some great instrumental moments with the electric violin and guitar at times creating a wall of sound, and other moments where they interplay.
It is widely considered to be a vintage, heavy pysch classic.

The record is EX++, very nice looked-after 1st UK early pressing, side 1 has just 2 thin surface marks that do not affect audio quality, and side 2 is completely unmarked. There are a number of spindle marks on the label, more visible on side 2 than side 1. During play-testing I could briefly hear a small amount of slight background noise in the intro to side 1 (one of the few quiet moments musically), other than that it plays extremely well. The record does not stick or jump.
The cover is G-, the cover is intact, but it was covered with sellotape about 40 years ago, which has since dried and been removed- see picture. It looks quite effective and appropriate to the Sea Shanties theme, in a sort of 'Barnacle-encrusted Pirates of the Caribbean' look!! However let's be serious and say that the cover surface is damaged, hence the low grading. The cover is not sticky as sellotape dries after a few years, but the stains are permanent on the non-laminate cover. The inside of the cover was not covered, and is OK apart from a line each side where the sellotape from the front was wrapped over - see picture.
This is an ideal purchase if you have a copy of this album with a decent cover, but you want a better copy of the vinyl LP.
Alternatively, you might be able to get a better cover at some point, for a low price if someone is selling a good cover/not so good vinyl.
The record will be packed in a stiff package specifically designed for sending vinyl throught the post, with added protection on the corners.
