Original MONO 1964  (54 years ago) pressing features one of the great surf bands on the cusp of the garage-rock scene ...

This impressive (West Coast) Glendora, CA, surf group was remembered for "Wipe Out," the number two 1963 hit that ranks as one of the great pre-garage surf-rock jammers, featuring a classic up-and-down guitar riff and a classic solo drum roll break, both of which were emulated by millions (the number is no exaggeration) of beginning rock & rollers.
The Surfaris recorded an astonishing number of albums (about half a dozen) and singles in the mid-'60s. The Surfaris were not extraordinary, but they were more talented than the typical one-shot surf-rocker group; drummer Ron Wilson was praised by session stickman extraordinaire Hal Blaine, and his uninhibited splashing style sounds like a direct ancestor to Keith Moon. He also took the lead vocals on the group's occasional Beach Boys sound.
"Fun City USA" was about equally divided between surf jams and vocal numbers, some of which had a burly garge rock feel (especially "Go Go Go for Louie's Place" and "Hound Dog"), and others of which plugged in the Beach Boys style vocal surf-hot rod sound. This one is pretty much the territory of hard-bitten collectors filled with pretty good tracks including "Burnin' Rubber," "Dune Buggy," "Moon Dawg," and "Big Surge," even takes on the classics, "Apache" and "Shazam" are worthy renditions. "Hot Rod High," one of the best vocal hot rod tunes not done by the Beach Boys (and penned by hot rod rock stalwarts Gary Usher and Roger Christian.) Ron Wilson's drumming is excellent throughout with his splash of sound.

                 CONDITION: The cover: rated: rated: "EX" (excellent) front cover (very close to M-) there are NO issues at all, see photo! The back cover is also clean BUT has a long blank-white sticker along pocket edge (back cover only) which is minor being in the blank white borders and not on any text, etc. There are no delete marks, no split seams, no bends, and no writing  ...
