Description

Various Artists, The Music of New Orleans Volume One: The Music of the Streets/The Music of Mardi Gras (Folkways FA2461) (late 1950s).

Recorded in New Orleans in 1956-58 by Samuel B. Charters and Harry Oster. Performers include Snooks Eaglin, Percy Randolph, Sister Dora Alexander, Mardi Gras Indians, brass bands, sidewalk entertainers, etc. With 8pp booklet of notes.

Street Calls/Times Done Changed/Musical Saw/Shoe Shine/Mean Old Frisco/To-wa-bac-a-way/Red White and Blue Got the Golden Band etc. -- 14 tracks.

Condition: disc has very light wear, no visible damage. Jacket (on very heavy card) bruised at one corner and faded on spine but otherwise very good. Booklet a little yellowed and creased. Very good copy of the fascinating document of N. O. street and parade music half a century ago.
