PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! Original 1984 first pressing
Slayer is unleashed! ....1984 was a big year for thrash. Technically the style goes as far back as the first time musicians merged punk and speed metal together, and began going beyond the usual NWOBHM trends for something more technically sound, structurally intricate, and in some cases, more vile. What we have here is a three song Extended Play that may very well be one of the most important releases in metal history, at least in the top 10, maybe even top 5. The "Last Rites" demo which would see Megadeth become its own entity, the "No Life 'til Leather" demo by Metallica and Anthrax's "Fistful of Metal," -- none of them could compare to this. Even Slayers own "Show No Mercy" could not compare to this. Once "Haunting The Chapel" came along, we really did not need "Show No Mercy" except as a historical artifact by which this band's evolution can be heard. In terms of influence, this single EP trumps "Kill 'Em All" and "Last Rites" by a mile. Not only did it do more for the evolution of thrash metal than either of those two (an arguable point in the case of the former) but it did more for extreme metal's evolution as a whole. "Kill 'Em All" was basically a more furious, chest beating, poser scalping breed of NWOBHM, but it was here that so many thrashers to come took their cue. Kreator cited this as an influence, Sodom did, Dark Angel did, Coroner did, Morbid Angel did, Death did... see where we're going with this? The nastier and more evil you go in 1980's metal the more influence you can see in this "Haunting The Chapel" platter. Once this jammer hit, thrash metal would never be the same. Metal would never be the same.
First we get the immortal "Chemical Warfare," essential listening for any young metal boy and girl desiring to grow up healthy. Basically, this is a template by which "Seven Churches," "Scream Bloody Gore," "Altars of Madness," and even "Eaten Back to Life" were hammered out of. The pace is blinding yet steady, the riffs on this thing are toxic enough to melt the flesh off bone, though Tom Arraya had not given up tonal shouts yet the same way Schuldiner and his ilk would a few years later. Considering the heaviest thing at this juncture in time was probably some "Ride the Lightning" or Judas Priest, this cut probably simultaneously scared and delighted fans. Can you imagine hearing this in 1984? This is what you needed....
The atmosphere here is absolutely grim and terrifying. The muddy guitar tone (well, muddy for this time) generates a feeling that you're standing in your house. Then, suddenly, a black vortex appears and dozens of ghoulish arms reach forth to tear you apart. You beg and plead but alas, nothing can save you from this onslaught of motherfucking thrash metal. Once Slayer dropped their grim atmosphere and penchant for corrosive yet memorable riffing and sidewinder guitar solos, they became nothing but a shell of their former selves...
