PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Original 1968 first pressing by the legendary 3rd GODZ album ... one of the best crude, raw & primive bands flowing with poetic verse that could be found on the shores of the East Coast '60s...standing next to the Holy Modal Rounders & The Fugs, The GODZ may have outclassed them all....
It's folksy in parts, psychedelic in others, and "Womban" sounds like the Troggs and the Fugs had a jam session fed through a charmingly primitive basement production. The psychedelic is that free-form rock sound, and you can really catch the vibe off of all the chaos. The folk stuff is plaintive, though the opener "Ruby Red" is a fantastic piece of morose mock-folk. "In My Shadow" is wierd, and comes and goes much too quickly.
Here’s where the Godz decided to “get musical” adding such luminaries as “Howie’s Cousin” and “J. ?” At least that’s its reputation, but in truth, “The Third Testament” is loaded with even more primal potency than its predecessors (“Contact High” & “Godz 2?). Sure, “Ruby Red” and “Walking Guitar Blues” are filled with the same Woody Guthrie-via-Dylanisms that were retch-inducing in the hands of lesser artists, but as performed by NYC’s finest, become a big middle finger to the Flower Power scene. A line as hippie-dippy as “Since when did they outlaw song?” would be enough to make me go outside to pummel the first moron wearing tie-dye if it were sung by a limp voice like Joni Mitchell, but from the Mouths of Godz it becomes an indictment; A pisstake on the naive cultural “icons” that surrounded ‘em Circa 1968.
Speaking of pisstakes, “Womban” is perhaps the Godz’ ultimate achievement– what at first sounds like a polyrhythmic caveman stomp with no hint of melody, with repeated plays reveals itself as a thrashing of soon-commonplace, uber-macho grunters like Bobby Lemon-Squeezer. “The First Multitude” with its outta tune droning guitars, overwhelming percussion and collage of radio snippets may very well be the birth of krautrock– spin it back-to-back with Faust’s early work and then tell me I ain’t onto somethin’...
