PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 18000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! Hard to find 1968 first pressing by the animal of '60s Los Angeles rock & roll...
One of the most colorful characters in the annals of rock and roll, Kim Fowley was, over the course of his decades-long career, a true jack-of-all-trades, a singer, songwriter, producer and manager, as well as a disc jockey and published poet he was the catalyst behind much of the music to emerge from the Los Angeles area during the 1960s and 1970s, guiding his associates and proteges to fame and fortune while remaining himself a shadowy cult figure sitting firmly in the American underground scene..
Flashback into the ‘60s when Hollywood producers of teensploitation B-movies wanted to reflect the hip psychedelic music of the time, they all too often employed Los Angeles studio hacks to record watered-down go-go jams with square-sounding surf guitars up front. It’s hard to tell if Kim Fowley was trying to make fun of this phenomenon with 1968’s Born to Be Wild or if he was just attempting to record more legitimately cool jams to be used in random biker, hot-rod or surf-gang movies. Either way, he succeeded. A cover of the Steppenwolf classic opens with dirty, distorted electric guitars backing up a lead Hammond organ. The results sound like a hip discotheque groove. Fowley and company keep the Doors’ “Hello I Love You” pretty close to the original (but with an actual bass guitar), while their take on Status Quo’s “Pictures of Matchstick Men” becomes an eerie- sounding affair trimmed with Phantom of the Opera-sounding organ and loads of reverb. Elsewhere the remaining A & B sides follow in same direction pulling off solid exploitation grooves of the '60s.
