Originally known as the Savoy Brown Blues Band, their 1969 single "Train to Nowhere" (with singer Chris Youlden), was viewed by many as the last gasp of the blues scene in Great Britain. Although Savoy Brown never reached much acclaim in their home nation, they developed a loyal core following in the United States, due to songs such as "I'm Tired" (from their album, A Step Further), a driving, melodic song. They were one of the bands that UK Decca (US London/Parrot) stuck with through the lean times until they started selling records (it took 4 or 5 albums until they started to sell in the US). In the late 1960s and 1970s, the band managed to penetrate the Billboard Hot 100. Superstardom perpetually evaded them, perhaps in part because of their frequent lineup changes, but despite that, Hellbound Train was a big album for them in the US!!!.

While the band is still active today, only Kim Simmonds has stayed since the beginning. Guitarist "Lonesome" Dave Peverett, bassist Tone Stevens, and drummer Roger Earl went on to form Foghat. Original member and harmonica player, John O'Leary, is still active on the British blues circuit with The John O'Leary Band. Savoy Brown's first album, Shake Down, featured lead vocalist Bryce Portius. Portius was one of the first black blues musicians to be a part of a British rock band. Another singer, Dave Walker, would later join Fleetwood Mac and Black Sabbath. Their bassists included Andy Pyle, later with The Kinks!!.

Savoy Brown also provided an outlet for the keyboardist and guitarist, Paul Raymond, who later went on to join UFO. Other notable members include Jeff Howell, who went on to play with Foghat and the Outlaws before returning to central New York, where he is considered the best carpet installer in Ithaca!!!.

Mega rare to ever find ''1'' ''G'' stampers on both sides! This would have been the 1st to be pressed from the master (mega collectable and makes all the difference for the best audio quality available on vinyl!!!!

The Vinyl

This looks awesome! on initial inspection of the playing surface This looks Awesome!  Still retaining its original deep glossy sheen from new!! LOOK SUPERBE! I can't see a blemish! Any that could possibly be seen would be whispy sleeve removal marks only!!!

The Audio Quality

 I have played this through track for track as usual prior to listing and the audio is truly awesome  certainly (no) jumps or skips CRISTAL CLEAR AND VIBRANT ON ALL FREQUENCIES! This is one of the best that I have heard of this pressing TOP! TOP! AUDIO WILL BE HARD TO SURPASS! This sounds and looks like new it has only ever been played by me three or four times,,  certainly not overplayed!! Unbeleivable for an original 1st pressing that is 37 years old!!!! This is clear and vibrant with (no) signs of distortion or that this has been over played at all!!!  In my opinion this looks and plays Top! on all frequencies!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! I have given my honest opinion as usual when describing the audio quality. I heard no  problems Please allow for the odd static ! Please remember that this is an original 36 year old vinyl that has been played and would have originally been played on a 36 year old system!!

Points to note! This has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 25 years! From my experiance this vinyl would benefit from a constant clean before each play! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves over a period of laying dormant, produces static crackle\ticks and constant cleaning reduces this static and subsequently enhances the audio quality!

The labels!

These are the original boxed DECCA labels (correct for this pressing) They are SUPERBEcondition!!   less than a hanmdfull spidering can be seen even  angled to the light THIS HAS ONLY BEEN PLAYED BY ME  THREE OR FOUR  TIMES!! (no) spindle ware the hole is perfectly round! (SEE PHOTOS) ''MADE IN ENGLAND'' IS FEATURED (ONLY UK PRESS)

The Record Sleeve

This is the original poly lined blue and white Stereo Decca sleeve with (no) splits or tares just light creasing\staining with age in at least excellent condition!! 

The Cover

This is the original UNLAMINATED GATEFOLD (sleeve printed in England (BY ROBERT STACE) In truly Excellent condition!! SUPER  STRONG AND STRAIGHT !!!! Super square corners (in general) and superbe spine with all writing legable!minor general storageware in the form of light rubbing at the corners (spine end) and edges and light minor whyspy creases only noticable if looked for! inside is perfect! Point to note!Very hard to find like this after 36 years, this cover is extreemely hard to keep in good condition! This must be at least excellent!
