SAOUD L’ORANAIS & REINETTE L’ORANAISE “El-Frak Rmani / Ya Biadi Ya Nass” 45 (Philips/French ORIGINAL!!)
Old songs by these two well-known Jewish artists from Algeria. Reinette L’Oranaise (born Sultana Daoud, 1918-1998) became famous eventually by introducing Arab-Andalusian music to Europe, but Saoud L’Oranais (born Messoud El Mediouni, 1886) is probably less well-known since he died young, a victim of the Sobibor concentration camp in Europe in 1943. A tragic loss to the artistic world, judging from what little is available from him such as his side of this record. It’s beautiful music from both, and fitting that they should share a record, as Saoud discovered and trained Reinette.

Condition: Record is VG+ to VG. I would say VG+ except for the more noticeable crackle around the edges, and the fact that it sounds a bit low overall due to the age of the recordings (probably transferred from 78 rpm shellac discs). The sleeve has some dirt and a bit of ringwear on the back, as well as a small bit of writing. VG+ overall. Check the soundclip and photos.
