Arriving at the height of his commercial resurgence, Shaman saw Mexican-American guitar wizard Carlos Santana repeat the cross-genre formula that had already reignited his career. Debuting at number one on the Billboard 200, his 19th studio album pairs his fluid, lyrical guitar with a cast drawn from pop, rock, neo-soul and beyond. Michelle Branch brings radio-ready shine to 'The Game Of Love', while 'Why Don't You and I' and 'Feels Like Fire' lean into polished melodrama. Seal, Macy Gray and Citizen Cope add texture elsewhere. It may favour accessible sheen over musical spontaneity, but Santana's touch elevates it to his own usual high standards.
