SABL 160, Gershwin, Bernstein, HI FI STEREO FIRST PRESS
Gershwin, Rhapsody In Blue - An American In Paris.
Leonard Bernstein at the piano and conducting the Columbia Symphony Orchestra.1959 UK pressed Philips Records stereo LP, SABL 160. Earliest issue heavy vinyl pressing with textured dark purple labels and silver print. "Hi Fi Stereo" marked to both jacket and record labels.
Vinyl in very near mint condition. Just a very few spider trace marks visible at centre spindle areas. Appears very little played. Surfaces have a rich and bright gloss and are free of any marks. Playback is generally clean and bright throughout. On initially inspecting the LP there was a little mucky residue right at the beginning of the sides, and I wiped this carefully clean with a lightly dampened record cleaning cloth. The very beginning of the sides still displays the odd very light crackle, but I'm virtually sure that this is due to some ingrained residue still remaining. A thorough cleaning of this area would doubtless be beneficial, and a few plays is likely to restore LP to its former glory. There is no hint of wear or marks near the beginning of the sides, and playback as a whole is superbly clean. The LP is not groove damaged, and is a superb early sonorous press with rich detailed dynamics.
Labels are clean and undefaced.
Sleeve in mostly very clean condition. Laminated front still very clean and bright and fully intact seams and tips with no splitting or wear. The unlaminated rear panel has fairly marked storage spotting however.
