Baron Elmo proudly presents a rare vinyl treasure from alt-rock titan RYAN ADAMS: a sealed copy of Rock N Roll, barely issued on LP in 2003, now long out of print in that format. As the album title indicates, this is Ryan's full-on rock outing, in which the former Whiskeytown leader/enfant terrible purges his music of the alt-country that was his bread and butter, with nary a twang in sight. Instead he freely indulges his guitar idol id, and the resulting LP is a whirlwind tour through rock history as filtered through Ryan's trademark swagger. Adams wears his influences brazenly, like patches sewn on a denim jacket, from the T-Rex stomp of "Shallow" to the snotty Nirvana/Smashing Pumpkins hybrid of "Note to Self: Don't Die" to several tracks clearly in thrall to the Replacements, particularly "This Is It," and "Do Miss America." Ever the contrarian, Adams reserves the only truly subdued moment on Rock N Roll for the title track, a lovely song that foreshadows the melancholy pop of the album's sister record Love is Hell Part 1, released on the same day. Rock N Roll is currently available on CD, but let's face it - no compact disc can equal the drop-dead coolness of cradling this LP in your trembling hands. And if you didn't buy a copy the week it was issued, then you missed your chance, Jack. Until now. Though the shrink wrap has come slightly loose on the back, this copy is still sealed at the business end and has never been opened.
