Description
Russ Freeman / Richard Twardzik Trio album - Pacific Jazz 1212 actually contains one side of each or these great under-appreciated pianists with their trios. Side one is Richard Twardzik with Carson Smith and drummer Peter Littman, while side 2 features Russ Freeman, Joe Mondragon, and Shelly Manne. The album jacket features the design expertise of one William Claxton, with the beautiful artwork of Edmond Kohn. By the time these sessions were released, Twardzik was already dead from a heroin overdose while on tour with Chet Baker in Europe. Fortunately these sides survived, because Twardzik recorded little, and his star was on the ascent, with print and vocal props from the likes of Baker, Serge Chaloff, and Charlie Parker, among others. Had he lived beyond his 24 years, he would be remembered today as one of the greats! As it is, this is nearly all we have... Richard Bock of Pacific Jazz released these 6 tracks at the behest of Russ Freeman - another unsung piano master. The vinyl is Near Mint, slight visible wear. It is the Black label with a deep groove. The jacket is beautiful, with little wear, or slight ring wear and slight yellowing - however, the top and bottom seams are completely split. We will not tape them or attempt to repair, as we feel that decision is best left to the next owner.
This LP is part of a HUGE jazz collection just acquired by Orbit Records that will be made available here on Ebay.
