Up for sale is a super-rare, brand new, sealed double-vinyl copy of Rush’s Snakes and Arrows from 2007. This Quality Records pressing offers incredible fidelity that has to be heard to be believed! Uber-fan Nick Raskulinecz took the producer’s chair for this one and really pushed Geddy, Alex and Neil to the absolute pinnacle of their abilities. One of three instrumental tracks on offer, Malignant Narcissism was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Instrumental in 2008. This amazing, black vinyl version comes with audiophile inner sleeves and two full-color inserts that feature custom artwork and the lyrics for each track, which are some of the strongest and most uplifting of Professor Peart’s career. Those aware of Neil’s personal losses and subsequent journey through the stages of grief that come with unthinkable loss will surely be moved by The Way The Wind Blows, as but one example. This is Rush back to full-blown, power trio mode, unleashing one guitar-driven tour de force after another, with a brief detour for Alex on his solo acoustic, Hope, a track that began as Lifeson just noodling and Raskulinecz recording it without his knowledge, although the final piece included here was re-worked and recorded in one take. In fact, there are no keyboards on the record at all, although Geddy Lee did wind up buying back a set of Taurus bass pedals he had sold twice before, after being spurned on by their wildly enthusiastic new producer to get back to a sound closer to their 70s output. It’s not far off the mark to say this record found Rush touching upon their classic sound from that decade, with a more modern, streamlined approach. If you like to hear Rush rock it up, this album is for you! Get it while it’s hot, cuz this one is really hard to find!
