redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This handsome 2-LP box set – a fine collector’s copy – from RCA Victor (LM-6005, US pressing, shaded dog label, mono, original inner sleeves included) features pianist Arthur Rubinstein’s first traversal of Chopin's 19 Nocturnes (embracing Opp. 9, 15, 27, 32, 37, 48, 55, 62, and 72) – taped at RCA Victor Studios, Hollywood, California, in June and July 1949.
There is about Rubinstein's playing a leonine poetry and depth of feeling that has been seldom equaled since, with these performances – his final recorded statements of repertoire he'd playing for over 60 years – resonating long in the memory – landmark recordings in the Chopin discography and quite unlike any other.
The left interior panel of the box carries insightful liner notes by Ralph Gustafson, printed in English only. The striking cover portrait of Rubinstein carries the artist’s signature, but I cannot make it out.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the box is EXCELLENT. There is mild shelfwear and discoloration, but that is all. There are no corner breaks, seamsplits, bends, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, and highly attractive – an excellent collector’s copy.
The condition of the 2 LPs is EXCELLENT throughout. Though the surfaces are not pefectly silent, really these are fine copies and playback is quite fine. Those requiring flawless or NM surfaces are advised to look elsewhere. Overall, these rate as excellent collector's copies.
PLEASE NOTE:
This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
