Rossini Verdi Overtures Giulini UK Columbia SAX 2377
Carlo Maria Giulini conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra in performances of Rossini’s “L’Italiana in Algeri”, “Barber of Seville”, “Il Signor Bruschino” and “La Scala di Seta” Overtures in addition to the Verdi “La Forza”, “La Traviata” and “I Vespri Siciliani”. An English stereo pressing on the Columbia Label (SAX 2377), the labels are blue/green with silver border and “radio waves” and black Columbia and stereo flash. Sadly, there is a deep scratch beginning at the end of track two on side one (Rossini) and through the two remaining tracks, and this clicks softly throughout. The record is otherwise of excellent appearance, and plays and sounds superb with a minimum of surface noise. The cover has rubbed a little.
