Description
This is an amazing set ! Six seperate Brunswick LPs AXTL 1036,37,38,39,40 and 41on the plum label with silver print,making up the complete 48 Preludes and Fugues by J.S. Bach also known as the "Well Tempered Clavier" books 1 & 2. Played by Rosalyn Tureck on the Piano.This is the first time that I have come across any of these records and have never seen them on offer complete like this on any dealers list.The individual albums differ from each other in type a little so either they were purchased at diferent times or (as I suppose was sometimes the case) came from the suppliers that way.Two of the covers have a laminated finish and the other four have the matt finish.All six have the plum and silver label and four are grooved, the other two not.One of the two non-grooved records is an early "flat pressing" and all were made in England.Conditionwise the covers are very good with a few caveats.Two of the covers have tears on the opening edge (see photo) and the same two have tape marks .The other four are not torn but the two laminated ones have a little delamination on the opening edge.That's about all.The vinyl is really good for it's age.No scratches or unsightly marks and a fine,clear sound without surface noise.The good condition of the vinyl must partly be due to the poly lined inner sleeves.The down side is that as they are not original they fit a bit too snuggly in the sleeves and pull out with a little difficulty,hence the tears to the two sleeves.To sum up I would say the covers are perfectly servicable though not A1 and the vinyl is really very good or better, sounding lovely after it's fifty years in existence.A beautiful and classic set.
