THE ROLLING STONES - 'THE ROLLING STONES'

This rare initial 1st pressing of their 1st album was purchased on the day of issue; 16 April 1964 and contains a shorter (2.57 min) version and completely different recording of 'Tell Me'. This can only be found on UK 1st pressings with the '-1A' side 2 matrix and has never officially been made available. All subsequent pressings of this album replaced this with a longer (4.06 min) version of the same song.

Both sides of this much sought after disc have unboxed 'deep-groove' red Decca labels: LK 4605

Stamper codes: 1/B & 1/B

This copy carries the earliest stamper code combination - the equivalent of EMI's 1/G, 1/G - except Decca's stamper code-word was 'BUCKINGHAM'.

Complete with its original poly-lined inner-sleeve.

Labels: VERY GOOD +

Both labels are clean & unblemished but have numerous spindle trails around each centre hole, but no writing or missing paper to either.

Visual: VERY GOOD

Both playing surfaces are clean & bright but do bear several light fingernail scuffs consistent with frequent handling and play. The only major mark is a 3cm feelable scratch which goes through the final two tracks on side 2. Both sides lie 100% flat when playing.

Play: VERY GOOD

Despite frequent play, all tracks play without any major deterioration to their sound quality. My careful play-check at volume found no significant groove/play wear on any track and in fact, apart from a touch of light background on the quieter 'Honest I Do' and some intermittent light clicks due to the aforementioned scratch on the final two track on side 2, there really is little else to fault on this historic copy.

Cover: EXCELLENT -

A respectable example of this easily worn, fragile cover which retains a clean & glossy front panel laminate with just a small bend towards the lower right corner and a few small spine wrinkles but no further significant wear. There is some staining to the lower coners but no damage to the card there or to the delicate opening edges. the rear panel is clean & white overall with just a small stain in the upper right corner but certainly no writing or missing paper. Both seams and the fully worded spine are smooth, unstressed & unsplit.

Inner-sleeve: EXCELLENT

Clean & flat with minimal storage bends and no writing, seam splits or tears.
