""MONSTER RARE ONLY A FEW THOUSAND WERE EVER PRINTED WITH THIS SLEEVE-1967 PSYCH/ROCK- THE STONES ANSWER (FAR LESS SUCCESSFUL) TO SGT> PEPPERS BY THE BEATLES""
Their Satanic Majesties Request caps off one of the most controversial years in the history of the band; the album itself a considerable source of controversy. It proved the Stones were ill-suited to go full psychedelic, but it doesn't mean this album isn't worthwhile.
"2000 Light Years From Home" is easily the best track on the album, and one of the better tunes they did in their early years; derived from 12-bar blues while turning it inside out, written mostly by Mick Jagger while he was in jail on drug charges. The song also features some of the best and creepiest mellotron effects ever recorded, something that King Crimson would build on with the instrument in a couple of years. "She's a Rainbow" is another outstanding track with gorgeous piano and tasteful orchestration. "Citadel" is one of the toughest rockers they'd done up to this point, and bassist Bill Wyman takes a turn at songwriting and singing with the sardonic "In Another Land". The majority of the remainder of the album proves that the band never really fit in with the psychedelic movement; jams like "Sing This All Together (See What Happens)" and "Gomper" simply meander, while the other material doesn't even measure up to the weaker material they'd written on prior albums.
In spite of everything working against it, the album still stands as a fascinating listen, mainly because of its derivative nature. The Stones would indeed return to their roots in the next year. This album also marks the final full effort by the original 5 members, as Brian Jones's role would be reduced more and more until his departure (and subsequent death) in a couple of years. COVER-UK ORIG LAMINATED FRONT and BACK SLEEVE-PRINTED BY ROBERT STACE LTD.ENGLAND. STEREO!!!!!!!.
BRILLIANT PSYCH LP AND SOMETHING ENTIRELY DIFFERENT THAN THE USUAL STONES BLUESY FAIR -THIS COPY IS THE REALLY HARD TO FIND ORIGINAL LENTICULAR FRONT IMAGE PSYCHEDELIC SLEEVE. THIS ALBUM HAS REALLY GONE UP IN THE APPRECIATION OF STONES FANS IN LATER DECADES.
Vinyl: G to VG. Many hairlines, none of which are deep or feelable. Audio is great and this vinyl sounds really nice without too much background noise and just a few low level ticks here and there. This vinyl looks and sounds great with a beautiful deep sheen. I played this in full and thoroughly enjoyed it. Don't expect CD quality sound though. Just really nice clean and loud audio. I was even tempted to keep this as it will be very hard to find this ever again, it is indeed really hard to find these days. Needless to say NO jumps or sticks.
Gatefold Sleeve: G+. Wow!! What a different sleeve for the time with its revolutionary lenticular 3D effect front. The 3D lenticular image is fantastic without any chips. Front and back laminated. The maze has been filled in with ballpoint. There is a 4" split on the spine. The rear bottom edge has come loose and needs re-gluing. A phenomenally rare album as a first press and rumoured to only have been pressed in a quantity of just a few thousand. Maybe someone can take it back to its former glory. How many would have survived over the last 51 years??
The "red smoke" inner sleeve is still present but has splits and tape on all sides. This inner sleeve is usually missing and as such a nice original to have. I will send the vinyl in a separate custom Decca inner sleeve which is a genuine item of the time.
Though there are rarely ever any problems with my items, I always try my very best to describe everything exactly! PLEASE REMEMBER to contact me FIRST, if you have any problems at all, before you leave feedback and star ratings, so I get a chance to turn any negative experience into a positive one! I can always happily sort anything out for you, if you let me know you have a problem! This way no one has to leave Negative/Neutral feedback - and we both walk away happy! Similarly with the amount of stars, anything less than a full 5 * rating is effectively detrimental to a seller's rating as lower ratings will incur higher Final Value Fees and lower priority in the bidlists eventually making it unattractive to list items on Ebay at all. I know of at least one major previous Ebay seller who has decided not to list via Ebay again. Please do NOT bid if you cannot give me at least 1 chance to sort everything out to your FULL satisfaction in the unlikely event of a problem. Thanks again!!
This an excellent investment opportunity!!! Any questions please ask me and I will try to answer soon. Postage outside the UK will be tracked and insured if over £30.00. In this case please wait for an amended invoice. All tracking fees are at Royal Mail rates.
