Description

The Rolling Stones – Exile On Main St. (1972 First U.S. Pressing, Complete w/ 12 Postcards) | NM Vinyl, VG+ Jacket

Up for sale is an original and complete first U.S. pressing of Exile On Main St., released May 22, 1972, on Rolling Stones Records. This is the highly collectible RI – PRC (Presswell) pressing with all four sides bearing the Artisan Sound logo — considered the true mark of the earliest U.S. issues.

This copy comes with the original Unipak gatefold jacket and the complete set of 12 postcards, which are often missing. Condition and completeness make this a standout example of one of rock’s most iconic albums.

Release Details

·      Vinyl: Near Mint (NM) – Both records retain excellent gloss, play beautifully, and exhibit no skips, warps, or distracting surface noise. One of the cleanest copies you’ll encounter.

·      Jacket: Very Good Plus (VG+) – Original Unipak shows light shelf wear and mild edge rubs, spine solid with no splits. Presents well.

·      Inserts: Original 12 postcards included.

Deadwax / Matrix (all with Artisan logo + “ROLLING STONES RECORDS” etching):

Collector Notes

·      All 4 sides bear the Artisan Sound mastering stamp — a hallmark of the earliest, best-sounding pressings.

·      Pressed at Presswell Records (PRC, RI), one of the two primary plants used for the first run (the other being Monarch in Los Angeles). Collectors value both, with Presswell copies noted for consistency and excellent sound quality.

·      Original Unipak design (opening from inside gatefold, not the spine) and postcards confirm this as a genuine 1972 first issue.

·      Later reissues often lack Artisan cuts and omit postcards, making this complete copy highly desirable.
