From the collection of a noted Australian rock’n’roll and entertainment historian comes this great piece of international rock history – and one with a MYSTERY ATTACHED. It’s the Rolling Stones box set known as the Black Box. A 3LP set released in 1978 via Dragonfly Records of Germany, this was initially an unofficial release compiled by Rolling Stones Vinyl Products (RSVP) in the early-to-mid 1970s. Disc 1 is known as Beautiful Deliah, containing radio tracks etc from the period 1963-68; Disc 2 is Gravestones, live tracks, radio and television appearances 1964-65; while Disc 3 is Rape Of The Vaults, live tracks etc from 1969-75. This particular set would appear to be ULTRA RARE….. but WHY??? Because, from the labels alone this is the German Dragonfly pressings from 1978 but has Festival Records Custom Recording (from Australia) labels over-fixed. WHY?? WHO KNOWS!! But very likely these were test pressings from the Australian record company in anticipation of a local Australian release. With tracks listings typewritten on labels. Records in Very Good Plus condition, merely dusty from storage. Box damaged, crushed bottom edge and missing piece, tape marks on front glued labels plus pen marks on cover track listing. No T-Shirt as listed on front of box.
