Description

An original 1st STEREO press of HITS on UK Decca from XMas1966. Matrix 4/4. Stampers 1U/1U - great audio provenance. Please note importantly that the labels exhibit a Decca deep groove. Also worth remembering that in 1966 Stereo is the far harder format to source. If your copy doesn't have the deep groove then I'm afraid it is not a 1st pressing. Reissued a squillion times - but true 1st pressings come from Xmas1966 and have a very specific layout. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original MONO gatefold cover with photo pages stapled in. Now, technically that's a format mismatch. But given that the only reference to format is four letters on the spine - this is about as minor a consequence as you could possibly hope for. The most important aspect is that the cover is true to 1st issue. Format indicator should show on the spine ONLY for 1st issue. There should NOT be a peephole on the rear [these are late sixties copies]. The internal photo shot of Jagger is also laminated [not matt] - which you only find on the earliest copies. We also have the original Decca inner from the time too. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) In lovely condition and has only seen relatively light use.  Under close inspection I can only make out a few light marks per side, a radial mark on Side 2 [nothing heavy though]. ALL fully tested and not appearing in the audio. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with one deviation. Please be aware that these sixties 'hits' records are usually murdered by this point in time. Take 'Satisfaction' - for instance - this track is usually played to death. But I'm pleased to report that this much abused track is left very well preserved and more than capable of impressing. Then take in those tricky low key numbers  like "As Tears Go by" - it plays impressively clean. 'Lady Jane' plays much better than you typically find - a couple of crackles here and there [that's all]. One isolated tick in 'Have You Seen Your Mother'. Other than that I'd argue, for a true stereo 1st, this represents a very fine rendition indeed. Highly recommended!
Cover (Vg+) In nice condition and has clearly been looked after. There's no lamination lift and just one crease in the top right on the front. Worth noting that the opening panel retains really good rigidity with a nice firm edge. The interior is looking smart with the photo pages still fully intact and attached. There's one small tear at the opening on the back [internal] panel. I have tape repaired to stop it deteriorating - it is now just a small cosmetic issue.  All the text is still fully legible on the spine with just a touch of wear right down at the extreme of the bottom end. Very little edge wear. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing. Bag is present. No splits.
