The Rolling Stones

Between the Buttons

UK 1st Pressing

LK 4852

1967

Mono

Overall Description

So here we have a super rare very first UK pressing of the Rolling Stones ‘Between the Buttons’!!

This is such a rare record to find in any condition but in this lovely condition is neon impossible.

This is the very very first mono pressing with the red grooved UNBOXED Decca labels that have the K/T tax code just to the right of the centre hole, and the date above the ‘Mirage Music’ credit!!  All later presses that you often see have the 1967 date at the very bottom of the label!!

Along with the very first and lowest matrix possible, the stampers are incredibly low at 1  BA & 1  BI!!

This makes the record one of the earliest presses you will ever see, and the closest you could find to that original mother tape and the true sound of the Rolling Stones!!

Matrix and Stampers

Side 1 XARL-7644-3A   1   BA

Side 2 XARL-7644-2A   1   BI

The A at the end of the matrix refers to Guy Fletcher, who was the Decca engineer who oversaw the pressing of each side.

Outer Sleeve

The 1st press front laminated Robert Stace Ltd sleeve is in great condition, especially considering its 45 year age! There is NO writing on the sleeve, No rips or tears, No stains. There is some slight laminate creasing to the front, and some mild ring wear and some mild discolouring to the rear, as is common with unlaminated rears.  Other than those minors, the sleeve is in splendid condition.  Even to find a second or third press in this condition would be amazing, but a very 1st press is never heard of!!  The spine is perfectly readable and straight and all the colours lovely and vibrant as they were when printed!! Excellent

Inner Sleeves

Original white with blue text inner has no rips or tears. A bit of mild folding being the only thing to mention!! Splendid! Excellent +

Labels

The iconic unboxed red Decca labels are in really nice condition, with no rips, tears or stains at all!!  Under a strong halogen bulb, you can see some faint spindle marks, but it is clear to see that this record has not been overplayed at all, which is such a rarity with any original Rolling Stones record!!  There is no writing at all  Excellent

Vinyl Visual

It still retains its wonderful factory pressed shine and lustre.  Under a strong halogen bulb, a few minor hairlines can be seen, and the occasional wisp of a removal mark, but none that effect audio at all.  There is only one cm long feelable, which can only just be felt, which doesn’t cause a jump or skip, just a couple of pops on track 5, side 2l.  It really is an astounding looking vinyl, that won’t disappoint The record is heavy and thick just like they used to make em! Very Good +

Vinyl Audio

Listened to the record all the way through, and it sounds superb! There are no jumps or skips or sticking of any sort.  It plays through sublimely!!  I heard only two pops through the entire record, on ‘Something Happened to me Yesterday’, as mentioned before!!  There was a little minor static between tracks, as is to be expected.  It’s such a strong clear audio, really punchy and sharp.   You really can hear the difference between a later pressing and these 1st pressing.  This is clearly the way to listen to the stones, in their purest form!! All the dynamics of the band are sharp and separable with no distortion on the heavier parts!!  Utterly Superb Excellent

Overall

So there we have it, one of the rarest Rolling Stones records available, housing one of the earliest first pressings out there, with super low stampers.

This is the closest you can get to the actual recording of the Rolling Stones, other than the master tape!!
