Description
The record that kicked off the rock and roll era - Bill Haley and the Comets "Rock Around the Clock" - Decca 29124. This is the ORIGINAL pink label promotional 78 (actually says "Sample Copy - Not for Sale") that was sent to radio stations in 1955 to play on the air. I acquired this record from the radio station where I worked in 1978. The record had been locked in a storage closet in the office of the radio station owner with other "banned" promotional records that were not to be played over the years by the staff (Rolling Stones, Doors, Jefferson Airplane, etc.). When I changed the music format from Easy Listening to Top 40, I cleaned out the storage library and used some of the records and sold off others. I kept this record because "Rock Around the Clock" was the first record I played as a DJ since it was made popular again by the "Happy Days" TV series. We didn't have a 78 player at the station anymore so I took this home as a keepsake for my collection. The condition of this 78 is NM and the labels are beautiful on both sides. It has retained its luster and you can see yourself clearly on both sides. I was told by the owner that this was only played 2 or 3 times to review the lyrics and music to see if it was suitable for airplay before it was put away in storage (so you know it will sound great). The green paper sleeve is the actual station sleeve used during programming rotation. This is truly a museum type piece, and you will not find this 65-year-old record in better shape anywhere. This shellac record is very fragile, so handle carefully. Sold "as-is", and shipping is included.
