Released in 1982 by Laff Records, Supernigger is a fascinating artifact from a pivotal era in American stand-up comedy. Laff Records, a label famous for its raw, underground, and uncensored comedy catalog, frequently compiled and packaged Richard Pryor’s early-career recordings from the late 1960s and early 1970s.
By the time this album hit shelves in 1982, Pryor was a massive Hollywood movie star, making these gritty, raw, counter-culture club recordings highly sought after by fans who wanted to experience his unpolished, revolutionary comedic roots.
