ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful and rare LP from German Decca (LXT 5075, German Teldec · Telefunken-Decca pressing, orange/gold "Langspiel33Platte" label, mono – no stereo edition exists) features Ruggiero Ricci’s high-octane accounts of Paganini’s Violin Concertos No. 1 in D Major Op. 6 and No. 2 in B minor Op. 7, both recorded in the fabled acoustics of London's Kingsway Hall on 14 and 18 February 1955, respectively, with Anthony Collins and the London Symphony Orchestra.
In Op. 6 Ricci plays Paganini’s cadenza as edited by Sauret). Ricci’s accounts are well within the Rabin, Kogan, Perlman class, with Collins providing spirited accompaniment, matching his soloist bar for bar in inspiration – performances with a palpable frisson. This is exalted playing by any measure and anyone who treasures the art of the violin will find much to admire here, with Ricci's stupendous technique allied to a consummate musicianship.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is slight bumping/wear at corners, as well as minor edgewear in general and light creasing, but that is all. However, the album is without seamsplits or owners' markings and remains solid, bright, and glossy, the artwork still colorful, the whole quite striking in appearance – an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is VERY GOOD. The surfaces are not always CD silent – there is some light surface noise – but in general the playback is superb. Overall, this is a very good collector's copy.
