Very rare genuine MINT 1972 UK FIRST PRESSING 6-track vinyl LP of symphonic progressive rock from Renaissance – the first featuring Annie Haslam – in the original gatefold picture sleeve with plain white inner. The sleeve and inner sleeve are in excellent condition apart from a sticker removal mark on the front cover and a one inch long split at the bottom of the inner sleeve. And the vinyl is flawless mint – a wonderful play-copy of Annie Haslam’s debut with the band!
The record is in Mint condition and sounds as wonderful as ever, while the cover and inner sleeve fully deserve a Very Good Plus grading. See pics. A superb copy of this very strong album!
Highly desirable for its A-1/B-2 first pressing matrices and Mint condition vinyl and increasingly difficult to find in good condition on vinyl, this could be a once in a lifetime opportunity to add this superb rarity to your collection at an extremely advantageous price.

This is the extremely rare real thing: a genuine Mint/Vg+ condition UK first pressing. The record is in Mint condition and the cover and inner are in Very Good Plus condition. All items are free from any major defects like scratches, tears, creases, dog-ears, writing, stains or the like apart from a sticker removal mark on the front cover and a one inch long split at the bottom of the inner sleeve. See pics. All items are the genuine originals bought together by me in 1972, not reprints or replacements. The LP is the original 1972 UK stereo LP, which was only played once or twice on top-end audiophile equipment and lovingly cared for.

In 1972, Renaissance's then-new management disbanded the line-up at the time (one of several short-lived transitional line-ups), retaining only Haslam and Tout to build a new band around. The new members added at this point were Camp, Sullivan, and guitarist Mick Parsons. Shortly thereafter, sadly, Parsons died in a car accident. Electric guitarist Rob Hendry was brought in at the last minute to replace him, and left the band soon after the album was completed.
Because Prologue was a new start for the band, with a line-up that now included none of the original members, it would frequently be referred to as their "first" album (for example, on the Live at Carnegie Hall album, both in a song intro and on the inside cover).
Though all the songs are Renaissance originals, they were not written by any current members of the band but by former members Jim McCarty (from the first line-up) and Michael Dunford (from the transitional line-ups), along with lyricist Betty Thatcher. Dunford would become part of the band again after Hendry's departure.
The piano intro to the song "Prologue" was borrowed from the beginning of Chopin's Revolutionary Etude.

The first album by the '70s (i.e. Annie Haslam) version of Renaissance is a transitional work, rooted in more standard hard rock sounds (including psychedelia) than what followed. One can spot the difference, which may please some listeners and put others off, in the fairly heavy guitar sound of "Prologue", Rob Hendry's electric instrument playing both lead and rhythm parts prominently at various times behind Annie Haslam's soaring vocals and adjacent to John Tout's piano. "Kiev" may also startle some long-time fans, since Haslam doesn't handle the lead vocals, the male members' singing being much more prominent. The ethereal, flowingly lyrical "Sounds of the Sea" is the cut here that most resembles the music that the group became known for in the years ahead, and shows Haslam singing in the high register for which she would become famous.

A fantastic time warp example of this rarity in amazing condition, a true investment grade item - get it while you can!
