Description
redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful LP from RCA (LM-2114, US pressing, plum shaded dog label, mono) features Fritz Reiner and the mighty Chicago Symphony Orchestra's magnificent accounts of Mozart's Symphonies and No. 40 in G minor K. 550 (rec. 25 April 1954) and No. 41 in C Major K. 551 "Jupiter" (rec. 26 April 1954).
Both works were set down in the fabled acoustics of Orchestra Hall, Chicago, produced by Richard Mohr and engineered by Lewis Layton. These are brilliant yet warm readings that find Reiner and the Chicagoans at the absolute peak of their powers – simply glorious!
There are insightful liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Alfred Frankenstein, printed in English only. The striking photo / cover design was executed by Ben Rose.
CONDITION – PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. Really, there are almost no flaws to speak of – a former price sticker and mild discoloration to the rear panel, but that is all. Otherwise, the album appears almost as new. There are no bends, seamsplits, or owners' markings and the whole remains solid, bright, and glossy – a truly fine collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.
