A PROF JOHNSON PURE ANALOGUE RECORDING on VINYL!
This is the real deal, NOT converted analogue to digital and back, etc, but a pure analogue audio stream.
A live performance captured by the budding "Professor" on his first vacuum-tube, three-channel analogue recorder on New Year's Eve, 1957 (?). One of the most natural-sounding presentations ever of a live acoustic jazz group. Features: Jimmy Wyble, guitar; Jerry Dodgion reeds; Red Wootten, bass; John Markham, drums. "The sound is spectacular.
"This is an exceptional recording of a live performance, made by Keith Johnson while he was a college student on a recorder he built himself. Some reviews incorrectly note that the recording was made on New Year's Eve 1957 as stated in the liner notes, but it was actually 1959 (?). (I suppose the actual recording date is irrelevant) Norvo and company are in fine form here. One great tune follows another. This recording is well known among several generations of audiophiles for its lifelike, natural sound. Of particular note in this regard is the track, Saturday Night," which has the potential to damage speakers if played too loudly."
