Rebel With a Cause, Rare Bob Dylan White Label Promo 45 rpm Single with Original Sleeve
Bob Dylan’s first single came with a promotional outer sleeve written by Columbia Records National Promotion Manager for Popular Products, Bob Thompson, introducing Dylan to radio programmers. The sleeve text, entitled “Rebel With A Cause” promoted his 2nd album, “The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan.” This is an extremely scarce Bob Dylan rarity and is almost impossible to find in such outstanding condition. Label text here is black. Later promo issues of this single came without the “Rebel” sleeve and featured red text and the more standard 4-42856 catalog number on the label. Original promo issues show only the JZSP 75606 number. This copy has JZSP-75606-1A etched into the dead wax on side 1, and JZSP-75607-1B on side 2.
We are not professional record graders, but the vinyl and labels of this copy are outstandingly clean. The only visible flaw is a small mark in the outer vinyl (not the groove) on side 1, as pictured. Otherwise, the record appears as new. The sleeve is in excellent condition, save some pencil markings in the upper right corner, also as pictured. Overall, an outstanding collectible copy of a rare item.
