Description
Recorded and released through Verve Records (MGV-8022) in the winter of 1956 , Ray Brown's 'Bass Hit!' is an album that has a mellow, laid back sort of vibe that has made it age beautifully. It was Brown's first Lp as a "leader" and one listen establishes his natural talents and gifts as a musician who senses what notes to leave in and which ones to leave out. Arrangements by Marty Paich under the supervision of Norman Granz.
Cover: Very Good +(+) .....normal age-related wear....and if not for some paper loss at the back (see last photo) would grade Excellent.
Original Inner-Sleeve: VG.....quite remarkable that this was even found inside the jacket. These transparent, vintage rice-paper inner-sleeves rarely show up. These have a tendency to become dry and brittle with age and this one is no exception. Nevertheless, an interesting bonus for the collector. A better inner-sleeve will be included to house the precious record.
Record: Excellent.....lots of shine....under bright lights one can see some superficial lines and scuffs. However, almost none have any bearing on the superb first press Mono audio. Compared to other jazz records of a similar age, the background noise was very minimal. Both labels are deep-grooved and are in amazingly well preserved condition. Remember, this Lp is 66 years old....RARELY will you find a copy of this vintage in this kind of condition.
