Hard to Find Rudy Vallee Radio Record 2715-D, Me Minus You/ Let's Put Out The Lights. The good news --- The Bad News ------
To look at this record, it would immediately strike you as near new, well, not so. This record, when it was new or sometime after, was played on an old wind-up phonograph with a bad needle. This resulted in some of the grooves becoming "steeled" or distorted, so playback on a a modern turntable produces both the good and the bad.
On the "Let's Put our the Lights" side, The first 25-30 grooves are very rough, yes, there is music, but also distortion. Most of the middle section plays just fine, except for clicks, caused from two needle runs (see picture). The last 30 seconds, has some distortion, but not like the beginning. Oddly, the record is free of surface noise, thanks to the very smooth Columbia surfaces, only damage is from the needle steeling. This side also features Vallee telling the listeners, he wants the composers to let him feature the tune as his closing them, and begs them not to put the son in a show!!! Very much --- Vallee!
"Me Minus You", like the other side does pretty much the same thing. First one half inch of playing grooves are rough with some distortion, the middle plays OK except for clicks from a needle run, Vallee talks some more about the song, and then during the last one half inch of grooves, there is some more distortion. I want to cry when I hear this side, since this is one my favorite depression tunes.
Believe it or not, the record is very listenable, regardless of the "steeling", This record, like most of the Columbia Private Labels, is very difficult to find, in any condition. But, don't say I didn't warn you!!!!
As with all records purchased from me, they are cleaned with the VPA professional Record Washing System, so the sides are free of grit and dirt and they are CLEAN!
This is part of a huge collection that I am trying to get posted on EBAY. Since there are now others posted from me, I will happy to combine orders to save shipping costs, since it costs very little more to ship six records as it does to ship one! Unless otherwise noted, records are shipped in plain manilla sleeves and shipped in heavy cardboard boxes with double pieces of cardboard top and bottom and the middle (if the the shipment is large enough) and packed with popcorn and/or bubble material.
