Description
For sale is a 1975 UK original pressing of The Rolling Stones’ Made in the Shade (COC 59104) — the classic compilation featuring some of their biggest and most iconic tracks.
This copy is genuinely rare because it was used on the radio. It is an original BBC Gramophone Library copy, taken directly from the BBC’s official music library and played as part of BBC radio broadcasts or programming. It carries a full set of authentic period markings that document its real service history:
• BBC Gramophone Library barcode sticker
• Large blue “The Best of the Rolling Stones” track listing sticker
• Prominent red “PLEASE RETURN PROMPTLY” panel complete with handwritten requisition history
• BBC “Stereophonic Library” stamp
• Circular BBC “Look After This Record – Irreplaceable” recording services sticker
• Yellow “note any serious faults” label
• Handwritten track listings on the rear in red ink
• Multiple library ownership stamps
Condition details:
The vinyl is near-mint — literally perfect with no scratches, marks, or signs of wear whatsoever. It looks and plays as fresh as the day it left the pressing plant.
The sleeve clearly shows its life in the BBC library. Sellotape was applied to securely hold the various BBC stickers and labels in place, with some slight age-related wear. Otherwise the cover remains solid and displays very well. All the writing, stamps, and markings are original to its BBC radio use and form an important part of its unique history and character. For a library copy that was actually used on air, the sleeve is excellent.
Matrix / Runout Numbers (etched in the dead wax — see clear photos):
• Side One (A): COC-59104.A1
• Side Two (B): COC-59104.B2
These early stampers add further appeal for collectors.
This is a true piece of Rolling Stones and British radio history — a record that was actually used on the BBC. Very few copies with this level of documented broadcast provenance surface. Ideal for serious Stones collectors, vinyl archivists, or anyone building a collection of music with real BBC broadcast ties.
Please examine all photos carefully — they show the exact item you will receive, including close-ups of the matrix numbers, BBC stickers, library markings, and handwritten entries. The photos form part of the description.
