The world of "italo" music spans everything from cosmic disco, to hi-nrg, to balearic classics, and everything in between. Bagarre's Circus definitely falls into the "everything in between" category. Originally released in 1982 on the tiny Italian label Sauvage Musique, Circus has a decidedly left field slant on italo. It's part new wave, part rock, part disco, and totally one of a kind. For a taste, check the single "Lemonsweet," (here in both standard and disco versions) with its super infectious, oddball pop vibe and out-there lyrics from Ann O'Rack (who handles vocal duties throughout). "Dirty Love" takes the energy down a notch on a sleazy Fleetwood Mac tip, while "For Your Pleasure" takes it to a funky post-punk level. Circus is a cult collectors item for the italo diggers, fetching a good price on the 'Bay and the 'Cogs when it pops up. Recommended for those looking for something different.
