Description
This is a rare Jewish Klezmer recording on an Edison Diamond Disc record. It is No. 59502, "Za Za Za" and "A Mitzve Tancel" by Israel J. Hochman's Yiddisher Orchester. It was recorded on January 18th 1919, along with the other four selections they recorded that day. There are a couple chips to the edge but not near the grooves. This is the only one of these I ever came across. Obviously the high price of Edison machines kept the normal buyer of klezmer music from owning an Edison. The last photo shows an advert from the December 1919 issue of The American Jewish World of Minnesota.
For those who are not familiar with them, Edison Discs are vertical cut and can not be played on a normal phonograph/gramophone using a steel needle.
I am continuing to sell my 30 year collection of phonographs, parts, accessories, and records, so please bookmark me. All items are sent via Priority Mail with insurance and am happy to combine shipping.
