Each album comes with a polythene protective sleeve & the actual record is in a separate new paper cover. It is advised NOT to insert the record into the record sleeve as this action could easily split the delicate seams, which are intact.
The grading system I use when determining the condition of the LP is:
Mint (M) The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
Near Mint (NM) The record looks brand new with no scuffing or any deterioration in sound quality and only the smallest hint that its ever been played. The cover and any additional extras are clean, crisp and with no wear whatsoever.
Excellent (EX) The record shows some signs of having been played, there is some surface noise, and there is some lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
Very Good (VG) The record has obviously been played many times, and displays some deterioration in sound quality; there is noticeable surface noise and the occasional pop & crackle. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
Good (G) The record has been played so much that the sound quality has deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches; surface noise is noticeable with pops & crackle. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
