Description
Very rare 78rpm - "How I Reached The Pole" by Dr. Frederick A. Cook Victor 31755 . . . Recorded October 2, 1909 12-inch, one-sided record. Historical Recording.
This record was quickly withdrawn after release by Victor. There is an interesting and relevant time-line in the recording, release and withdrawal of this record. - Dr. Cook claimed to have reached the North Pole in 1908, before Commander Peary reached the Pole - On September 21, 1909 Cook received a hero's welcome in New York - On October 2nd - 11 days later - Cook recorded this record - Lack of evidence for his claim began to unravel his story - On October 24th Cook was expelled from The Explorers' Club - Later expelled from The Arctic Club - December 1909 - Victor released this record - December 21st - Honors bestowed by the Danish Government were cancelled - Victor quickly withdrew the recording; it never appeared in the next full catalog, several months later. - January 14, 1910 - Victor recorded Commander Peary - "The Discovery Of The North Pole" ( in less than 4-months, from hero's welcome to recording the true discoverer of the North Pole ) Record is in Excellent condition, plays very well. Media Mail is $7.50 within the U.S. Postage extra outside U.S., will be estimated and invoiced for Non-U.S. winner. Please wait for my invoice before paying . . .
