Here we have a rare original pressing of the classic album Witchcraft Destroys Minds & Reaps Souls, the debut album of the psychedelic rock band Coven. Released as a gatefold album in 1969 on Mercury Records, it was unusual in that it dealt with overtly occult and satanic themes, and was removed from the market soon after its release due to controversy. However, it remains a classic of its genre, and in some ways set groundbreaking trends for later rock bands. This album marked the first appearance in music of the sign of the horns, inverted crosses, and the phrase "Hail Satan." Identifying marks on the front cover are "SR 61239", making this a first pressing. This record has been tested and plays very clean with only a very minor light scratches. Only some very minor "crackling" can be heard in some sections, consistent with the record's age, but this does not at all affect the playback. A finger print can be seen on one side of the record from previous improper handling, so a cleaning may be beneficial. The jacket is in good condition with some very slight ring wear towards the bottom, as well as on the top left corner, and a few slight scratches throughout and some corner wear. Overall we grade both the record and sleeve VG+. This is a great copy of this hard to find classic record, and is a must-have for any Coven or witchcraft fan! 2016/2214/W
